The White House says it is reviewing how the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic magazine was accidentally added to a group text in which people who appeared to be members of President Trump’s administration discussed plans to launch airstrikes against Houthi militants in Yemen. “At this time, the message thread that was reported appears to be authentic, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain,” the National Security Council said in a statement to NBC News. The statement came in response to an article by The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg reporting he had been added to a group chat with top officials and was unsure if it was authentic. Goldberg reported that he exited the group after he personally concluded it was “almost certainly real.” NBC News' Courtney Kube explains the story to Katy Tur.
