·3-21Are Trump’s “Deals” Real? #usa #america Trump went to the Middle East and got a ton of investments but are they real? On Friday, Trump said the gulf states are going to invest 2 trillion in the US. Then on Monday, he said 5.1 trillion, on Tuesday he said it’s probably going to be 7 trillion. If these deals are real, Trump has truly blown the doors off the American economy…. But are they real? Well… probably not. Trump says that Saudi Arabia pledged to invest $600 billion into the US over the next four years - but in the fact sheet the White House released - they only detail 282 billion dollars of deals. We’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the other 318 billion will be announced later. Investing 600 billion in 4 years into another country is so incredibly ambitious that it’s extremely implausible to happen. Saudi would have to use 85% of its sovereign wealth fund or it would have to give the US half of its entire budget for 4 years. Even if you stretch it out to 10 years, it’s still pretty implausible. Moving over to Qatar - Trump says they pledged to invest 1.2 trillion. The White House only details around 250 billion in deals. Again, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, and unlike the Saudi deal - they don’t specify a time frame. Over 4 years, this is fundamentally impossible because Qatar simply doesn’t have 1.2 trillion dollars lying around. Over 10 years, this is extremely unlikely. They’d have to give away 100% of their sovereign wealth fund and more than half of their entire GDP for 10 years to invest 1.2 trillion. If we stretch it out to 20 years - it’s still pretty unlikely. Moving now to the UAE. Trump announced 200 billion dollars worth of deals, but the White House only detailed 78 billion on their fact sheet. On top of that, they also reaffirmed a 1.4 trillion dollar investment from March that will take place over 10 years. This is pretty implausible, this is what all of the Emirati wealth funds combined are worth… so they could just use that or they could give 28% of their GDP to the US every year. But look, no country in the history of the entire world ever has given another country 10% of its GDP annually, let alone 28%. So Trump’s 2 trillion dollars in investments aren’t real. The Gulf Princes clearly know how to play the game with him. I do love that he keeps raising the amount every other day though, by next week it's going to be 45 quadrillion billion trillion dollars.
