·4-22In her podcast with The Hope RRevolution Cwecwe’s mother never mentioned the name of the school her daughter went to or the name of its principal but we now know that it is Bergview College in Matatiele and its principal’s name is Jaco Pieterse. The Cwecwe issue is complex and here are a few details about the school, its principal and Afriforum. Despite public outcry and the public generally feeling that support should be given to Cwecwe and her mother, AfriForum has chosen to back the school principal who happens to be white based on technicalities, the fact that he has not been named as a suspect and his account of events. We can only wait to see what happens in court but as far as the court of public opinion is concerned, many people believe AfrForum is on the wrong side of this case and others are wondering why the organization is involved at all. I have to preface this by saying the information about the school comes from a letter supposedly sent by the school to parents. In the letter the school informs parents that the MC of education in the Eastern Cape has decided to withdraw the registration of the school as an Independent School and that his decision becomes effective in the next 24 hours. That letter is stamped 30th March 2025 meaning that the decision is effective as of tomorrow which is Monday. Secondly the letter reiterates that according to the USPS their school principal is not a suspect in the case or connected to the case in any manner. They've also said that the principal will be working remotely until further notice. The school says that a non education employee of the school has been placed on indefinite leave because he is a person of interest in the case we further add that he is one of four possible people of interest.
What we what we know about Afriforum is that they've acknowledged that their private prosecution unit is protecting the interests of Jaco Pieterse, the Principal of Bergview College in Matatiele. In a statement they say Pieterse is not a suspect in the case involving a learner at the school, nor have the South African Police Service (SAPS) ever regarded him as a suspect that would justify their request for a buccal sample for DNA testing. They say they believe that Pieterse had no contact with the girl and that there isn’t any evidence that the offence took place on school grounds.

·3-30Lobby group AfriForum has called on Police Minister Senzo Mchunu to issue a public apology to the principal of Bergview College in the Eastern Cape. AfriForum's private prosecution unit, led by advocate Gerrie Nel, is representing the principal who they say was wrongfully mentioned as being a suspect in the rape of a seven-year-old girl from the school. The group accused Mchunu of making false allegations against the principal, and not correcting information in the public sphere on details of the investigation into the rape. AfriForum spokesperson Barry Bateman says they'll be assisting the principal to file charges for defamation against Mchunu. #sabc #sabcnews #fyp #afriforum #senzomchunu
