This local picnic experience in Newfoundland was a standout experience on the Irish Loop. Lighthouse Picnics operate out of Ferryland, which is about a one hour drive south of St. John’s along the Avalon Peninsula. This boat tour in Newfoundland and Labrador takes you to see puffins and whales from Bay Bulls. O’Brien’s Whale and Bird Tours take off from Bay Bulls into Witless Bay. Gull Island is home to North America’s largest puffin colony, with over 250,000 couples of puffins coming here to mate each year! The puffins are an attraction in and of themselves—they are so cute!—but you can likely plan on spotting a few whales during the tour, too.
