Come with me to shoot Daytona 500, We’re doing it differnt shooting primarily for a stylized artistic vision using custom filters, slow shutter, flash, and more - and it’s been a few years since I’ve covered nascar so I’ve got some ideas This year I got Rolex roof though which makes for the best crash images *cough foreshadowing cough* and a top down view of victory lane We had a pretty nice sky for during inspections I’m mostly just shooting through objects and trying to show team bosses watching their car get inspected and then afterwards cup series qualifying, which is by far the best times to get glamor shots of drives climbing in their cars because it’s only team and media out here so no fans to fight through I tried out some slow shutter frames with stacking different filters like pretty easy day getting back in the groove, came home to import images and met with a windows blue screen so thanks for that Microsoft stay tuned for day 2

I don’t know why I thought this was a good idea but I’ve always had to just learn the wrong ways to do something myself and getting the glass out of the metal frame of this uv filter was no exception I though it was press fit between two pieces of metal but it turns out it’s held in with a threaded ring The last bit of wiring I needed to do was a lpe 19 dummy battery to xt60 which is just the common power plug I use on most projects 105 uv filter glass was actually just a tad smaller so I made a sorta shelf for it to sit on and then sandwich it into the lens port from cap, after sealing and letting setI think that was the right move and it held up being submerged though it looks like there’s water inside it’s just water on the outside lining to the glass from surface tension so a hydrophobic coating will be mandatory. A big misson objective was getting the front of the lens as close to the lens port as possible to prevent reflections and it ended up being maybe a millimeter away. Since everything is custom so is the o rings which will hopefully keep water from entering trhough the Lens port connection to the body And to finish it off, a lens port cap After a short garden hose test we made it out alive, on camera it looks like there’s tons of water in there but that’s just the hardened epoxy and it’s dry, but even still in hind sight I think I’ll add a shroud to covers the o ring seal better so direct water hits or even a slight misalignment can’t cause it to fail but besides I’m thinking through some printed front attachments like a lens hood or matte box style setup while I work through the really fun stuff of trying to hack canon’s control software so we can create a custom control harness to control exposure ramping and monitor progress in real time over the internet. #camera #timelapse #photography

I’m gonna blow your mind with this zero budget network storage or NAS setup, I know this stuff gets it’s complicated and you might have no clue if you need to buy one of these or not so lets figure it out what we can do the problems you have which Network Attached Storage can solve - you have no singe location where all your current and old projects, footage or photos can be access immediately as needed, and this slows you down - you are beginning to work with a larger in office team that needs to all access the same media at the same time - you have projects too big to be working off a single drive like an SSD or external hard drive. lets define network attached storage and discover what it can solve on a zero dollar budget. network storage - it’s a pool of drive space you access the TCP/IP protocol that we call internet in one usually in one of these cables any local device can access it versus lets say a hard drive connected via a usb cable, that’s only visible to the single device it’s plugged into, which is called direct attached storage. And here’s where I’m going to blow your mind the first time this video - because there is nothing special in these products that let them share hard drives on a network. Any storage device, a usb drive, ssd, hard drive that’s direct attached to a computer can be shared on a network with the right software configuration network and therefore becomes a NAS. Let’s say we have an Mac, we’re working in small office or traveling and need to share footage with editors in the media room like you would for sports or a festival. We can turn on file sharing in the settings and share any directory we want with a couple button clicks. That will work from wifi, or standard gigabit ethernet but both are slow. A little slower than the speed of just a direct attached hard drive. If you work only with Mac people you can use a thunderbolt cable like this one to send the TCP/IP protocol over it at much faster speeds. Basically making that computer into an all in one router and file server and here’s how. In network on all computers add thunderbolt bus as an option, Connect this cable. IT MUST BE THUNDERBOLT NOTHING ESLE WILL WORK. Now in the sharing option we’re going to turn on file sharing and add whatever directory we want so share here. On the right side add you administrator account to have read and write access. Now restart that file server computer and check the self assigned IP here. We’re going to put it in this window on the computer you want to connect to it. i.e. the client Enter the username and password you use to sign in on the file server computer. With my old laptop that’s utterly useless for editing, but has 2 tb of internal storage, I now have a battery powered NAS that can connect to up to 4 mac computers to, and see 10 gigabit networks speeds when sharing files which is amazing for short term projects on the road with multiple editors. Now let’s say we’re at home, you can share any drive or directory this way so let’s make a huge storage array in one of these jbods. We can use old 3.5 inch hard drives we already have in here and add them together with smart raid. I’d reccomend you make 2 volumes of the same size from that jbod, and have one volume back up the other which is what you share on the network - you can use something as simple as Time Machine for that. And this time since we’re at home we’re going to buy some of these 2.5 or 5 gigabit network adapters, and a faster network switch - since we aren’t using thunderbolt this will be a little faster than a standard dongle though with this config going to hard drives speed isn’t going to be as amazing it’s just something we have to compromise on to stay ultra low budget. If you have an old pc tower we can make a really robust setup, or a dead simple one. inside it’ll have space for several hard drives we can plug in over sata, #nas #networkstorage #mac #creative #contentcreator
