Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic: Defines "yalla" as an Arabic colloquialism meaning "come on" or "let’s go," showing its roots in Arabic dialects long before its use in modern Hebrew. Dr. Muhammad al-Ahari (Linguist & Historian): Explains that "yalla" is a classic example of an Arabic expression borrowed into Hebrew through cultural exchange in Palestine. Yasir Suleiman, Professor of Arabic at the University of Cambridge: Highlights how Arabic words, including "yalla," have been absorbed into modern Hebrew, particularly through Palestinian Arabic. “Languages in Contact" by Bernard Spolsky: Notes that "yalla" is part of Hebrew slang but confirms its Arabic origins, demonstrating how linguistic borrowing can lead to misattributions.

Here is the recipe straight from one my my faves @thegoldenbalance Chicken thigh seasoning: Chicken seasoning 2 tbsp garlic powder 1 tbsp cumin 1 tbsp turmeric 1 tbsp coriander 1 tbsp all spice 1 tbsp paprika 1 tbsp ground cardamom ½ tbsp ground cloves ½ tbsp cayenne 1 tsp sazon 1 tsp onion powder ½ lemon juice 2tbs white vinegar Olive oil (I added this and I added a lot) TOUM: ½ cup garlic Salt ¼ cup lemon juice 1 cup oil Season the chicken thighs and set aside Make the toum After the chicken marinates a bit. Get a large onion and peel and cut in half. This will be your base. Put in the skewers Pierce the chicken through the skewers Onion on top to keep together. Oven at 400 F Put the chicken in for about 1.5 hours. Make sure to check on it as it tends to fall over. If it does leave it lying down but make sure to flip it to cook evenly. For the toum: combine the garlic, lemon and salt and use a hand blender to blend. Then add the oil and keep blending. Gently moving your hand up and down Assembly: Get a large and thin pita from your local middle eastern store. Add the toum and the chicken Optional additions (I did) Add some Arabic pickles (yes they are different and you can get those at the local middle eastern store) Cut up some tomato A little lettuce Roll tightly and add to a panini press or on the stove top like I did to crisp and warm the bread on moth sides. Take a bite and add toum with each bite.
